| The Air Training Corps was
founded by King George IV on the
5th February 1941, and since
that time the organisation has
grown in strength year on year
to a current membership of
around 60,000. The primary
role of the organisation is a
voluntary youth group, which is
affiliated to the Royal Air
Force, but not a recruiting
service for the RAF.
However, many members go on to a
career in the RAF or Her
Majesty's other forces. |

| Young people, both male and female are allowed
to join from the age of 13, and can stay as a cadet until they
are 20 years of age. Cadets are extremely well cared for during their time with us,
by a team of vetted, qualified Volunteer Staff and Civilian
Instructors, and need little encouragement in participating in
the activities we have to offer them. |

The Air Training Corps motto is Venture
Adventure, and has three main aims
-
To promote and
encourage among young people a practical interest in
aviation and the Royal Air Force
-
To provide training
which will be useful in the Services and civilian life
-
To foster the spirit
of adventure, and develop qualities of leadership and good
citizenship

The
opportunities that are available to our
members both cadets and adult staff are
simply amazing, and the journey can be
life changing in so many ways! Just ask
anyone who has been involved in the
organisation.
Flying, gliding, shooting,
sport, adventure training,
canoeing, climbing are just a
few of the main activities, but
there is so much more. You
will learn good leadership
skills, make life long friends,
and have a social life that
you'll find hard to keep pace
with. Boring weekends will
certainly become a thing of the
past, and you'll also enjoy
learning new skills during weeknight
parade evenings. |
