The history of the
squadron has been well documented by
previous officers over the years, and there
is a vast amount of information available.
Mr J Williams (previously OC 499
Squadron) has kindly offered to help with
this section of the website, so his input
will be very much valued and appreciated.

Introduction |
| |
| On February 5th 1941, the Air Training
Corps was established by Royal Warrant, with
His Majesty King George VI as Air Commodore
in Chief and Air Commodore J. A. Chamier as
its first Commandant. |
| |
| Shortly after, on 3rd April 1941, No.
499 Port Talbot Squadron was formed, with
its Headquarters at the Counts School in
Station Road. |
| |
| Our first Commanding Officer was Flight
Lieutenant P. H. Burton R.A.F.V.R.(T), who
held this appointment until 1945, when he
was succeeded by Flight Lieutenant Percy
Gaen, who had been his Adjutant throughout
the war years. For his service to the
Air Training Corps, Flt. Lt. Burton was
awarded the M.B.E. |

| This history section of the website is
being designed to record the past 65 years
of the Squadron, and for future generations
to maintain its history and tradition. |
| |
| We are proud of our Squadron, we are
proud of those cadets who were former
