Cadets
climb three peaks |
| |
| Air cadets from Port Talbot have been
hitting the heights without their feet
leaving the ground. |
| |
| Every year, teenage members of the
town's 499 Squadron take part in a
three-peak challenge in Wales. |
| |
| This year the youngsters aged 14 to 19
did it again by completing the 24 hour
sponsored challenge in searing temperatures. |
| |
| They left Port Talbot at midnight and
travelled to Llanberris for a dawn climb up
Snowdon. Then after being fed, they
were transported by a support team to
Dolgellau to scale Cadir Idris. From
there they moved on to the Brecon Beacons
for an evening walk up Pen-y-Fan. |
| |
| The cadets and officers were joined for
the first time by their civilian committee
chairman Peter Knowles, who was sponsored to
boost their funds. |
| |
| Squadron commander Fight Lieutenant Mike
Stones said: "It was the best weather we
have had for the event in recent years,
though extremely warm. The midday walk
up Cadir Idris was started in a temperature
of 31 degrees." |
| |
| "But all the cadets did very well and
the sponsorship money will go towards
squadron funds, with a donation to charity
selected by the cadets." |
