Cdt Geraint Lawrence - Air Experience Flying Log 2007

Flight One
13th August 2007, 1130.
Aircraft Type and Number: Tutor GBY UT
No 1 AEF
Duration: 30 minutes

Flight Description

This was my very first flight in a Tutor and was very nervous, but as soon as I sat in the Aircraft I was fine.  The pilot completed his pre-flight checks, and before I knew it we were in the air!  The pilot showed me the cockpit instruments, and told me what they did.  Shortly after, he showed me straight and level flight.  The pilot then handed me the controls, and I flew towards Porthcawl.  He then took control once more and headed for Port Talbot.  We flew over my house and circled it twice.  The pilot then suggested we head back to St Athan, where we had a smooth landing.  I pulled myself out of the cockpit with a big smile on my face - which I carried around for the rest of the day!!

Flight Two
25th October 2007, 1430.
Aircraft Type and Number: Tutor GBY UT
No 1 AEF
Duration: 30 minutes

Flight Description

This was my second flight, and this time I was itching to do aerobatics.  However, the cloud was too low and it started to rain so we couldn't.  We did try to fly at 2000 ft, but the cloud came down so we carried on at 1500 ft to Port Talbot.  After flying over Cwmafan the pilot headed back for St. Athan.  On the way back the horizon was better, so the pilot taught me basic turning.  As we were getting nearer St. Athan, two Hawk pilots came on the radio, and they said they would be 2 minutes.  On hearing this, the pilot tried to get the Tutor to go as fast as he could.  Then ATC came on the radio and told us we had priority over the Hawks.  I asked my pilot if he had flown a Hawk, and he said that he had done 120 hours on it, and that they were fun to fly!  As we landed the two Hawks flew over our Tutor.
